Ginuwine Uniondale Concert reviews
Great 1st half, not sure about the second
"I arrived at the venue when the doors opened, which was a big mistake. 6pm for a 7pm concert didn't seem unreasonable, but delays meant we stood outside until 6:30. The first opening act started at 7:15ish, with twenty minutes of music I didn't enjoy (weird semi-rapping breakup songs), then the lights came back up. The second opening act started at 8:30, and I enjoyed some of their music, but I was really there to see Ginuwine, who didn't come on until after 9.
The first part of the concert was high energy, with amazing stage work and songs I loved. The audience sang along to every word, showing staggering power and enthusiasm. Then, a 'Kitty Purry' set left everyone sort of dazed - was that really a giant rat running around the stage? After a short break, there was a conversation covering everything from her garden (she grows parsley and kale) to her diet (no gluten or lactose) and God (not kidding). This was followed by an acoustic set that lost just about everyone in the audience, as the energy was gone. We then went from huge sets, lights, upbeat music to Katy with two backup singers at the front of the stage - no dancers, no visuals, just her singing. Many younger audience members (kids under 10) got bored and restless. The show tried to start things up again with a 'dance party', but the momentum was gone.
The finale (Firework) blew me away, and I was glad I'd lasted until 11 to see it. The lights, the acrobats, the show was outrageous. So, skip the opening acts, get some food in the middle, but be sure you're in your seat for the last number. It'll blow you away."
